located in the burgeoning west end neighborhood of downtown portland, two small apartment units were combined and renovated for a young couple. existing spatial relationships were maintained while servicing elements are consolidated into a central core, allowing for an uninterrupted exterior edge of windows. all functional needs of the couple are integrated into the core which allows for generous living and hosting space. materials are expressed honestly and combined with a playful graphic presence. new casework elements are distinguished by a rich plywood texture and cast aluminum hardware. wet spaces are celebrated with an immersive material experience of tile and contrasting grouting.
